Inchbold, John William
JOHN WILLIAM INCHBOLD (1830-1888)
John William Inchbold was a landscape painter, from Leeds, who, as a young man, was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and painted scenes according to their principles. In his later years, which he spent mainly abroad (in Italy and in Spain especially) he gradually abandoned the minuteness of his earlier works for a freer style but his art remained highly poetic. He was also a poet and published a volume of sonnets entitled Annus Amoris in 1874.
While in the Alps he met the artist John Brett, who was also under the influence of John Ruskin.
