That Elvis Presley was a major musical talent is doubted by very few people. Fifty million (or more - who knows for sure?) Elvis fans can't ALL be wrong, can they? The man could flat out rock and roll.
However...
There have been few celebrities who have been such terrific targets of parodies and humor. That curled lip, the over-the-top tackiness of Graceland, sequined jumpsuits, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, dying on the toilet, the fanatical fans, those movies; the list goes on and on and on, practically BEGGING us to make fun of him. And we do make fun of him. With great gusto and inventiveness and in huge numbers, we make fun of him, or at least of the persona we've come to know as Elvis.
