Benda, Frantisek

Bohemian composer Frantisek (Franz) Benda (1709-1786), born in Staré Benátky, and also a virtuoso violinist, was a favorite of J. S. Bach during the latter's final years. His was a musical family, including brother Georg Benda, another composer and violinist of renown.
