Bruckner, Joseph Anton

Born in 1824, Austrian Romantic composer Anton Bruckner learned music first from his father and the Catholic Church, then later from Simon Sechter. He then learned from Wagner and others how to expand or break the musical rules he'd learned and embarked on a tumultuous career. He died in 1896, and his music remains polarizing, inspiring strong like or equally strong dislike, with little middle ground.
