Bull, Ole Bornemann

Norwegian violinist and composer Ole Bornemann Bull (1810-1880) developed an innovative style that grew out of Norwegian peasant and folk music. He went so far as to modify his violin and bow. Bull constantly sought to advance the arts in Norway and to expand Norwegian influence, going so far as to attempt to establish a colony in Pennsylvania. The fruits of this are shown now by a state park named in his honor. Meanwhile, compositions such as Et saeterbesøg and I ensomme stunde remain in the repertoire.
