James Garner was born 1928 in Norman, OK as James Scott Bumgarner. He dropped out of high school and fought in Korean war. 1954 he got his first minor role on Broadway.

During almost 50 years of his career he has played in 90 films and TV series. He is best known as Brett Maverick from TV series "Maverick" (1957-1960), but also as Henry Tyroon in "The Wheeler Dealers" (1963), Jason McCullough in "Support Your Local Sheriff!" (1969), Nichols in TV series "Nichols" (1971-1972), Jim Rockford in TV series "The Rockford Files" (1974-1980), and Murphy Jones in "Murphy's Romance" (1985). He has also produced and directed a couple of TV films and series.
